Psalm 110:1 / Matthew 22:43-44 / Mark 12:36 / Luke 20:42-43 / Acts 2:33-35 / Hebrews 1:13 / Hebrews 10:12-13
7 Times the Word of God says that Jesus is seated in the heavens until His enemies are made His “footstool.” The “footstool” is of course what we would understand it to be, a thing on which we prop our feet. It’s an image of relaxation, the object being inanimate and inert. So, when the Word speaks of “His enemies being made His ‘footstool,'” it is refering to Jesus’ victory over the enemy and rendering the enemies of the Kingdom authority-less. I say authority-less because though demonic forces have power and use it, according to the Covenant of the Cross, they operate illegally, and we, the church, are called to be the royal identity that comes alongside of Jesus to enforce His victory by preaching the Gospel, healing the sick, casting out devils, and winning the lost.
The Word repeatedly tells us that He through His life, death, and resurrection overcame the enemy. His victory is a past tense experience. He already overcame. However, if He already overcame, what is lacking (Col. 1:24)? Why does the Word say, seven times, that He is seated UNTIL His enemies are made His footstool? The answer is simple, the BRIDE’S part is what remains. The Church has a role to play. Though we did not defeat the enemy, Jesus did that. We are called to “enforce” what has already been done, until we walk along side our King.
The answer to those questions aren’t so much about what Jesus NEEDS TO DO it is about what HE HAS ALREADY DONE AND WANTS TO DISPLAY THROUGH HIS CHURCH. If we are to rule and reign with Him, we must be able to show our desire to reflect His already gained victory
Someone recently asked me, “why is it so hard to say ‘no’ to temptations?” I’ve heard others ask, “Why do we have to have trials? Since Jesus defeated Satan, since all authority has been given to Him both in heaven and on earth, why can’t we just have a perfect life now?” Again, the answer is in the Word, and the answer is focused on the Church, the people of God, the New Jerusalem, Children of God, and the manifest Sons of God. The answer to those questions aren’t so much about what Jesus NEEDS TO DO it is about what HE HAS ALREADY DONE AND WANTS TO DISPLAY THROUGH HIS CHURCH. If we are to rule and reign with Him, we must be able to show our desire to reflect His already gained victory. Since He overcame Satan, and Satan has already been bound, demonic forces which operate to Kill, steal, and destroy are operating illegally, and we must declare, by faith, the end to those things. When someone is attacked, we must identify it and reiterate Jesus’ victory, by using His Name and declaring that the enemy is already under His Feet.
By doing those things that He has called us to do – declare and confess the Word, lay hands on the sick, cast out devils, feed the hungry, clothe the poor, etc, by doing those things, we expand the Kingdom with FORCE, and we move ever toward the experiential truth that the enemies of Christ, demonic forces, are becoming His footstool.
